Amy Cooper

Amy_CooperE-RYT 500, Certified Yoga Therapist with International Association Yoga Therapy

Amy is founding director of the Shasta Yoga Institute where she teaches and leads registered Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Training programs. Through many years of dedicated teaching and practice, Amy’s teaching embraces a wonder for the human body, mind and heart continuum. Motivated by waking up, seeing deeply and as a means to serving others, her journey of Self inquiry invites students to explore their own yogic path, their body wisdom and deeper inner knowing.

Along with 34 years of Iyengar Yoga and a therapeutic private yoga practice, Amy is deeply inspired by her somatic and bodywork studies (Feldenkrais, Body Mind Centering, Educational Movement Therapy, Massage Therapy) and explorations in Embodied Anatomy and Vipassana Meditation; she offers an integrated approach while still honoring the ancient wisdom teachings.
Bringing Yoga to life has been a thread woven through her relating, parenting and working journeys… Meditation has been her saving grace and continues to be the well from within where she sources her movement through life and work.

Practicing yoga since 1979 and teaching since 1981, Amy received her yoga Introductory Teaching Certificate from the rich community of practitioners and Senior teachers at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. Amy has studied with BKS Iyengar, K Pattabhi Jois, and TKV Deskachar, and specifically under the wings of Judith Hanson Lasater. She has been Certified from as well as on faculty for the Integrative Yoga Therapy program with Joseph LePage. In addition, Amy has received Certifications in Massage Therapy from the Institute for Educational Therapy and the National Holistic Institute, as well as a Meditation Teacher Certification from the Expanding Light, in the tradition of Yoganada, author of Autobiography of a Yogi.

In her teaching, Amy facilitates each student to develop a sense of ease and freedom in relating to their body and mind. Drawing on ancient yogic teachings, meditations & non dualism, she weaves a creative, invigorating yet calming, centering yet spacious exploration of Self through Asana. In addition to teaching locally, Amy leads Yoga Retreats for physical and spiritual renewal. Amy can be contacted at @ (530)859-5433

“Amy Cooper is my magician of choice. She inspires and sparks students in her kind, wise, loving and encouraging way to appreciate and celebrate the ancient and timeless teachings of yoga.” –Jack Moore
